English: In the early part of the 20th century, Vashon Island marketed itself as "The Home of the Big Red Strawberry." This Big Red Strawberry postcard includes a map of Vashon and Maury Islands showing steamer connections to Seattle and Tacoma. According to the back of this postcard, postmarked August 1908, Vashon Island farmers shipped some 75,000 crates of strawberries from the island that summer. Full title: Vashon Island, gem of Puget Sound and home of the big red strawberry. Written on verso: Message: Portage, Wash., Aug. 13 1908. I am glad that you got home safe and sound after the trip to Orting. I am having a fine time on Vashon Island. Original postcard (lithograph)" ca. 1908.
